Twin Bed with Faux Raised Panel

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

My little girl is growing up too fast.  It’s time for her to upgrade to a big girl bed and she’s really excited about it.  She told me ‘Momma my bed is cute’.  That makes all of the effort worth it!

Her twin bed is really easy to build with a Kreg pocket hole jig*. The added molding makes the headboard and foot board look like raised panel.  You can add as much molding as you like, to make it look fancy (or non at all).  This twin bed is so easy to DIY. To make the bed super easy to disassemble, I used bed rail hardware* to attach the bed rails to the head/foot boards.  In lieu of the hardware, you can use pocket holes too.  Wood slats across the bed rail support the mattress so no box spring is needed.

The building materials for this bed cost me a little over $100.

For this twin bed plan, I was able to partner with BuildSomething.com. BuildSomething is a great community resource for woodworkers and DIY’ers, that may not have a site of their own, to share the plans they’ve created online.  Shared plans don’t have to be computer generated, even hand sketches will work.

Simple Kid’s Table and Chair Set

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

Today I’m participating in a challenge hosted by the amazing Sandra at Sawdust Girl.

Create something with only scrap wood!

  • Free wood, branches, pallets, reclaimed lumber is all good.
  • Also feel free to use new fasteners (nails, screws etc.) and finishing products.

She put out a challenge to build a project using your sCrap pile, which was perfect because I have a large sCrap pile!  I’m a bit of a collector and saver, because I might need that piece…sometime for something. 🙂

About 1 1/2 years ago my Dad had a big building project on his farm.  There were a bunch of these shipping pallets/sheet supports left and some other pieces of less than stellar wood.

Even though there probably wasn’t a straight board in the piles, I saved the wood…because it was free.  I’ve used the best of that wood (even made a dresser) over the last 1 1/2 years and I finally went through my remaining wood and sorted it, determined to clear out my sCrap pile.  Here is what I started with for this project.

The wood was very crooked and in bad shape, but since most of the cuts are short it didn’t matter too much.  I saw this idea for a table set at a craft show this summer and decided that it would be perfect for my pile.

We have an open floor plan, so the family room, kitchen and dining areas are all one large room and it’s the first thing that you see when you walk into the house.  Our family spends most of our time in the family room. With young kids, keeping the house presentable is sometimes always a challenge 🙂  We are always looking for great ways to organize the kid’s stuff (and ours).

I am beyond excited to team up with Ryobi Nation to Get Organized.  Just what I need!

Entertainment center (PB media center plan)

I built this entertainment center a few years ago, it was so long ago that it was before the days of Pinterest.  Do you remember those days?  Dog-eared magazines, bookmarked websites and real physical folders with ideas in them, holy cow what did we ever do before pinterest? 🙂  One day I was perusing through my Pottery Barn magazine and saw this beautiful media center.  I do love Pottery Barn and buy things from them, but I can’t stomach their furniture prices, because I know I can make it for less.  This media center was listed for $2799, and it cost me approximately $300 to build it myself.media center free plans
