Today’s Tool Time is all about disassembling a pallet…but keeping the nail holes. If you’ve ever tried to take apart a pallet with a hammer, you know it is a pain in the rear. Plus you probably cracked a number of your slats (that you wanted to keep.) Using a reciprocating saw (sawzall) is a simple way to cleanly disassemble a pallet, not crack the boards and keep the ends of the boards with the nail hole character. Use either a carbide tip blade or a metal only blade, either make this job slick and easy.
How long does the battery stay up on the saws-all?
I’m sorry, I haven’t timed it. It would also depend on what battery size you have, the large Ryobi batteries last quite a bit longer than the skinny ones.
Batteries vary by manufacturer, voltage, long-term care, and what you are doing with them. For something as simple as a pallet, you should be able to do a few of them on a full charge.
I’m curious about the nails actually staying IN the pallet. Doesn’t all the reciprocating loosen them up?
If the nail was loose to begin with it will probably fall out, but most of mine stay in otherwise.
