Last year I saw the Behold Him blocks on pinterest. I thought that they were soooo cute. When Christmas came around the pin had a broken link, so I did my best to recreate it. I made them for my neighbor gift for Christmas. Since then I’ve found another link to I think the ‘original’ Behold Block creater. I believe she sells them here. Definitely the cutest ones out there. However, they are pretty cheap to make if you’re into it.
You’ll need:
- 1 – 2″x4″ wood (it’ll run you about $2.40 at Home Depot)
- Letter print outs (I printed at Costco 4×6 – $.13 each, 8×12 – $1.49, and 18×12 – $2.99
- Paint
- Mod Podge
- Sponge brush
Cut the wood 2×4 to these lengths:
- B – 8″
- nativity picture – 8″
- Him – 12 ½”
- These next blocks need to be cut a little more, otherwise ‘Him’ would’ve been really long
- E – 4″ x 2 ½”
- H – 5 ½” x 2 ½”
- O – 3 ½” x 2 ½”
- L – 5″ x 2 ½”
- D – 4″ x 2 ½”
Sand blocks and round the straight corners over. Paint the blocks your favorite color, mine are white.
Print out the pictures. I printed the letters and picture at Costco. It is more cost effective if you are making like 6 sets of these blocks. Here are the individual pictures and also the grouped pictures:

- B – 3″ x 7 ½”
- E – 2″ x 3 ½”
- H – 2″ x 5″
- O – 2″ x 3″
- L – 2″ x 4 ½”
- D – 2″ x 3 ½”
- Him – 3″ x 12″
- Picture – 3″ x 7 ½”

The most cost effective multiple printing is in groups of 6 sets of blocks. Print
- 1 sheet Him’s – (6 Him’s 18″x12″)
- 2 sheets B’s – (4 B’s 8″x12″)
- 2 sheets pictures – ( 4 pictures 8″x12″)
- 2 sheets E’s – (3 E’s 4″x6″)
- 3 sheets H’s – (2 H’s 4″x6″)
- 2 sheets O’s – (4 O’s 4″x6″)
- 3 sheets L’s – (2 L’s 4″x6″)
- 2 sheets D’s – (3 D’s 4″x6″)
You can get 6 sets of blocks from 4 – 2″x4″s, so the wood and pictures end up being $3.35 for each block set. Not too bad!
Next Mod Podge the letters and pictures onto their corresponding block. I usually do a top coat of either mod podge or a clear poly urethane type. And they are as easy as that.
If you are giving them away, you might want to include a picture/diagram of how it goes together.
An FYI: The paper designs used on these blocks came from www.ggdigitaldesigns.com Leslie is my favorite digital designer!

Thanks for the great craft idea! I made one today but painted the wood black and it turned out great.
